We’re thrilled to share that BHP, one of Yorkshire’s most respected and fastest-growing accountancy and advisory firms, will officially join Sumer Group on 1 January.
With a 150-year heritage, more than 420 colleagues and 5 offices across Sheffield, Leeds, York, Cleckheaton and Chesterfield, BHP is a standout force in the North. The firm generates £37 million in annual fee income and is trusted by thousands of SME and mid-market businesses thanks to its straight-talking, relationship-driven approach.
About BHP
Led by Joint Managing Partners Lisa Leighton and Hamish Morrison, along with a hugely talented team, BHP has earned its reputation through deep sector expertise and a genuine commitment to championing clients and communities.

Why this matters for Sumer
BHP is the largest independent practice to join a national group in 2025 and marks a major strategic moment in Sumer’s growth story. Their arrival strengthens our presence across Yorkshire, enhances our UK-wide corporate finance capability, and brings another values-driven firm that blends entrepreneurial energy with exceptional technical strength.
With 15 firms joining us so far this year, Sumer now includes more than 65 offices and 3,000 colleagues across the UK and Ireland.
Looking ahead
Over the coming weeks and months, our teams will work closely together to ensure a smooth integration. This is a brilliant way to end the year, and an exciting springboard for 2026 as we continue our mission to champion SMEs across the country.
Warren Mead, Chief Executive Officer of Sumer, said:
“This is a standout moment for Sumer. BHP is a powerhouse in Yorkshire with a long track record of helping businesses thrive. Their culture, ambition and commitment to quality make them an exceptional fit for us. Lisa, Hamish and the team have built something very special. We’re delighted to welcome them and incredibly excited about what we can achieve together for SMEs across the region and beyond.”
Lisa Leighton, Joint Managing Partner at BHP, commented:
“Joining Sumer marks a bold new chapter for BHP. Our five-year plan sets out ambitious goals for growth and innovation, and aligning with a Group that shares our values and drive gives us the platform to accelerate that journey.”
Hamish Morrison, Joint Managing Partner at BHP, added:
“Maintaining our cultural DNA was vital in finding the right home for our team. This move expands what we can offer clients and creates new opportunities for our colleagues across Yorkshire. We’re proud to become part of Sumer and look forward to shaping our future together.”
