The accountancy service for SMEs looks to rapidly scale
Today, Sumer, the UK’s leading mid-market accountancy practice, for small to medium-sized enterprises, has announced the launch of Sumer Law.
Sumer Law will provide legal services to Sumer’s SME client base, initially focusing on corporate, commercial, and employment advice. Sumer Law will complement established services including audit, tax, outsourced finance, corporate finance, and insolvency.
James Kearns, Head of Legal Services, has been appointed as divisional chief to spearhead Sumer Law’s launch and future growth. Kearns has a proven track record in corporate and commercial law and specialist knowledge of SMEs’ legal requirements. His expertise includes share sales, equity investments, corporate reconstruction, shareholder agreements, EMI option schemes, and wider commercial contracts.
Rhiannon Davies also joins Sumer Law, as Employment Solicitor, bringing sixteen years of legal practice with her. Rhiannon’s focus will be to assist clients with employment law-related queries, provide consultation on key contracts and policies, and ensure they are kept abreast of the fast-moving changes in the sector.
Warren Mead, Chief Executive Officer of Sumer, said: “We’ve identified that many of our clients would prefer to go to a one-stop shop for business services. We’re now able to offer this through Sumer Law, providing instant access to joined-up legal and financial guidance, regardless of location.”
Commenting on the launch, Kearns said: “Founders and entrepreneurs are time-pressured and busy. They need commercially-minded and practical advice from professionals, who understand the specific challenges faced by SMEs. At the moment, joined-up and SME-focused professional advice can be hard to access. That’s why we feel that Sumer Law working within, and complementing the services of, the broader Sumer group, is such a winning proposition.”
Sumer Law is currently recruiting for corporate commercial and employment solicitors, across the country.
Sumer’s mission is to champion smaller and medium-sized businesses, through the provision of quality accountancy and professional services. It believes this best-in-class support is vital to power our communities and the wider economy. Sumer’s strategy is to form regional Hubs throughout the UK, focused exclusively on the SME market.
The Hubs announced so far include: Carpenter Box, Cowgills, EQ Chartered Accountants, Jerroms, Monahans, RMT Accountants & Business Advisors, R.T. Marke & Co Ltd, Scrutton Bland, and Simmons Gainsford Group.
